In the Upstate of South Carolina, there are 2 common types of residential roofing.

The first type of residential roofing is the asphalt shingle.  Traditionally, this type of residential roofing has been the standard for many years.  There is a wide selection of colors and types to choose from, and warranties typically range from 10 years to 40 years.

The most common asphalt shingle is the black asphalt shingle.  If you want a more decorative look, then perhaps an architectural asphalt shingle will work well for you.  Architectural shingles have more definition to them.  Rather than straight cuts, the cuts are at differing lengths which gives the finished roof a more custom appearance.

Architectural shingles come in a wide variety of colors, as well.  If you prefer residential roofing that combines several colors, you can find them in architectural shingles.  These are much more expensive than the standard black roofing shingles.  However, if you’re looking to update the look of your home, you may find that architectural shingles fits perfectly into your plan and budget.

The second type of residential roofing is metal roofing.  Metal roofing is increasing in popularity in the residential roofing market due to the exceptional products now available.  Installation is relatively quick and can be less expensive than asphalt shingles while still offering long term protection from the elements.  Before you select your residential roofing contractor to do the job, check their references and go look at the job that they have recently done.  You certainly want a reputable residential roofing contractor to do the job right.

Metal residential roofing is available in a wide variety of colors and finishes. Copper paint is even available that can give your home’s roof a very unique look, and the patina can be kept for years by applying a special coating once the paint has achieved the patina you desire.
